The data for the academic year 2007/08 for Kings College London showed that, averaged across the 8 halls, electricity usage decreased by 8.9% from the average of the previous 5 years (after factoring in variations in temperature). Stamford Street won the competition followed by Great Dover Street.
On the basis of the energy data, around 75 tonnes of CO2 were kept out of the atmosphere, particularly as a result of the actions of the Eco-Power Rangers who numbered over 290 and equated to 11% of the students living in residences at the University. The energy saved was enough to power a 15W energy saving lightbulb for over 1300 years. The residents of Stamford Street received £1000 from E.ON to go towards an end-of-year event where they celebrated their success in style with karaoke, cocktails and grub. We hope that all the students involved in the initiative keep up the good work when they move into private accommodation and remember that every single action makes a difference. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise!
