This is the fourth year that the University has run an inter-hall energy-saving competition, and overall the competition has contributed to a 10% reduction in electricity usage compared to three years ago.  This represents a saving of over 200 tonnes of CO2 - that's the same as driving a car 28 times around the planet!

This year, there's been an average decrease in electricity consumption of 3.4% across all the halls, which means that together you've saved over 98,000 kWh and prevented over 48 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted - great work!  That's the equivalent of the amount of energy used to:

  • power an energy-saving lightbulb for 686 years
  • make over 2.8 million cups of tea
  • fly from London to Manchester and back 541 times!
